Ottawa East Community Garden

Fall clean-up on the plot On the plot

SLOE worked with the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre and Just Food (Community Garden Network) to locate and establish the first community garden in Old Ottawa East. With kind permission for land use from Saint Paul University in June ’07, and permission to expand the garden onto land owned by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate last year, the Garden now has forty plots and even more gardeners, since some plots are shared. Given the demand, and the fact that the land currently being used is likely to be “repatriated” to other uses in the not-too-distant future, garden members are looking for other options to further expand.

The Garden is run independently of SLOE by its members (those who have plots). The City of Ottawa provided funds for some tools and equipment via the Green Partnership Program.
